DCD Data Center Connect Event 2024

This week saw representatives from AF Switchgear attend DataCentreConnect Data Center Dynamics two-day event. This event brings together 3,350 senior decision-makers from across EMEA’s data center ecosystem at London’s Business Design Centre.

The focus of the first day was on targeted networking in small groups with both existing and prospective clients, fostering relationships, engaging in Q&A sessions, and sharing best practices among industry leaders.

AF Switchgear was honoured to participate in the Tech Exchange Session, where Harry Foster Sales Manager and Stuart Garnham Sales Director had the opportunity to present our business and host a Live Q&A on the innovative technology and services we provide.

Apprentice Intake 2024

Last week, we welcomed the latest cohort of Apprentices to the AF Switchgear Group Apprenticeship Scheme, now entering its 43rd year in 2024—a milestone we are incredibly proud of.

This year, we have enrolled nine Apprentices in our Electrical Panel Builder programme and two in our Fabrication Welders programme.

Each Apprentice will undergo four days a week of ‘on-the-job’ training at our Nottinghamshire headquarters, working closely with a dedicated mentor, and one day a week of ‘off-the-job’ training at Vision West Notts College.

We extend our best wishes to all our apprentices for a successful journey ahead.

AF Switchgear 50th Party

🥳 At the end of July we celebrated our 50th Anniversary in true AF Switchgear style with a huge party for all employees plus partners.

We had a marquee on site, a band, caterers, bars, magicians, caricaturist, 360 photo booth and lots more.

A great day was enjoyed by all and the weather was perfect. ☀️

Engineering Assistant

Purpose of the Position:

To work in conjunction with West Notts College to attain a qualification in Electrical Panel Building.

A 4-year apprenticeship leading to Engineering Fitter Level 3 –Electrical Pathway, including: Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering BTEC Diploma in advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Learn how to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

• Be trained on how to assemble a range of control panels.

• Learn how to inspect and test components.

• Learn how to maintain control panels, machines and equipment.

• Learn about the wiring of panels and how to diagnose and rectify faults.

• Gain a good understanding of the sector and the products and services supplied by AF Switchgear.

• Attend college and produce work of a high standard.

Reporting to:

Production Managers / Team Leaders / Operations Manager

Hours of Work:

08:00 – 16:00 Monday to Friday

Essential Qualifications / Experience :

Minimum GCSE Level 4 (Grade C) in Maths / English

Time management skills

Organisational skills

Attention to detail

Smart professional appearance

Self motivated and reliable

Confident with meeting / speaking to new people and

conversing with ease

Genuine interest in the sector

Apprentice Electrical Panel Builder

Ramsdale Park Golf Club Charity Event 13th July 2024

Last Saturday 13^th July AF Switchgear supported Ramsdale Park Golf Club Captains Annual Charity Day with 6 teams entered (24 players).

The day comprised of teams competing in a fourball Stableford format with the best two from four to score on each hole. Well done to one of our AF Switchgear teams who finished in third place.

Thanks to Club Captain Dene Parsons and Club President Danny Harkin who is the main charity organiser for the event.

A charity auction was held in the evening, this year the charities supported are Emmanuel House and Base 51.

The club has raised over £300,000 since this event started approximately 20 years ago.

Sales Office Administrator

We are looking for a Sales Office Administrator in the Sales Department.

Reporting to the Sales Director, the role will include, but is not exclusive to:

Responsibility for complying with the Q&E management system within their level of activity.
Log new enquiries as they arrive, either by post or via email.
Record details of new enquiries on to the estimating system.
Print all relevant documentation.
Create quote folder and place appropriate printed information into folder.
Act as general point of contact for the Sales/Estimating Office for enquirers that do not request a specific member of the team.
Take calls on behalf of colleagues who are either not at their desk or otherwise engaged.
Assist with updating the estimating system including amending the database when new supplier prices are received and or discount structure changes.
Prepare duplicate quotations already completed by an individual estimating engineer followed by the emailing process to the customers and the filing of copy quotations into the quotation folder.
Assist the remote sales team with their administrative tasks and ensure new information is communicated to them and all electronic file are up to date.

Sales Estimating Engineer

We are looking for a Sales Estimating Engineer in the Sales Department.

Reporting to the Sales Director, the role will include, but is not exclusive to:

Evaluation and preparation of sales tenders in conjunction with other members of the sales team, internal and external.
Liaison with potential new customers at enquiry stage.
Compliance with the companies engineering standards and procedures when preparing Estimates and tenders for the Company’s products.
Liaison with customers at the order stage to ensure compliance with the Company’s credit control procedures.
Preparation of contract folders ready for handover to engineering and attend handover meetings.
Continue liaison with customers at the post enquiry stage and post order stage as necessary to maintain continuity and goodwill.
Close liaison with Engineering department to ensure conformity with the agreed build specification for our products and any works to be undertaken on site.
Liaise with the engineering team providing support as required regarding any cost variations to the contracts.
Assessment of new supply products and techniques in conjunction with other sales and engineering staff.
Attend meetings as required and requested either internally or at customer offices or sites.
If skilled in CAD and as workload demands assist with the Creation of Sales General Arrangement Layout drawings and single line Power schematics using AutoCAD working from sketches produced by yourself or other members of the Sales team.

Sales Office CAD Technician

We are looking for a Sales Office CAD Technician in the Sales Department.

Reporting to the Sales Director, the role will include, but is not exclusive to:

Responsibility for complying with the Q&E management system within their level of activity.
Creation of Sales General Arrangement Layout drawings using AutoCAD working from sketches produced by our internal and external sales team.
Creation of Sales General Arrangement Layout drawings using AutoCAD working from customer drawings and specifications.
Following receipt of order for a project, Creation of Contract General Arrangement Layout drawings and Single line power schematics using AutoCAD working from our tenders and customer information.
Maintenance and upkeep of the CAD drawing blocks and templates including the creation of new drawings for modified and new products we may use in manufacture.
Attend meetings as required/requested.
Assist Sales department and clients with space planning exercises.
