Apprentice of the Year Award 2023

Apprentice of the Year Award 2023

Apprentice of the Year Award 2023

Since our greatest asset is our workforce, we have supported an Apprentice training scheme since 1981. This has provided us with a continued source of skilled employees for progression to many Management, Sales, Engineering, Administration and Accounting positions within the current organisational structure.

The Advance Modern Apprenticeship Scheme offered by AF Switchgear follows recognised BTEC and NVQ qualification programmes of high quality ‘off-the-job’ and ‘on-the-job’ training to develop qualified JIB Electrical Fitters, Fabrication Welders roles within a four-year period. We work with Vision West Notts College as our preferred training provider offering excellent world class training facilities.

In connection with this week being ‘National Apprentice Week’ yesterday we announced our Apprentice of the Year Award for 2023 and our winner is Fernie Cooling.

Fernie is halfway through the 3rd year of her Apprenticeship with us and is currently on secondment working alongside our Engineers as a Trainee Applications Engineer.

I asked Fernie how her secondment has been going and here is her reply:

“I have been fortunate to have the opportunity for the additional training, it has given me a better idea of what goes into the panels we wire, and how all the devices work with each other which I am confident will improve my overall work when I go back onto the shop floor in May. I have learned a lot with the engineers, who have all been incredibly patient and supportive of my learning, always taking the time to answer all my questions and explain things in detail for me.”

A huge well done to Fernie and we wish her all the best with the remainder of her Apprenticeship with AF Switchgear.
