Purpose of the Position:

This apprenticeship is in conjunction with West Notts College leading to a qualification in Metal Fabrication.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not exclusive to:

  • Structure, properties and characteristics of common metals.
  • Looking at typical problems which may arise.
  • Approved diagnostic methods.
  • Importance of using approved processes.
  • How roles and functions in the organisation interact.
  • The need to continually review fabrication and general engineering processes in workplace meetings.
  • Tools and techniques for cutting, shaping, assembling and finishing materials.
  • Pattern development processes, tooling and equipment, cutting and forming techniques.
  • Assembly, finishing and inspection techniques.
  • Factors influencing selection of forming process and principles, procedures, and testing of different joint techniques.
  • Using equipment associated with manual or mechanised joining techniques including maintenance and consumables.
  • Effects of heating and cooling metals.
  • How to interpret relevant engineering data and documentation.
  • Attend college and produce work of a high standard.
  • To adhere to the Job Pack information, including signing Job Pack forms.
  • To refer to and follow the Company Personnel Instructions where appropriate.
  • To remain on the job in a productive role.
  • To assist the Works Supervisor, Lead Operative and mentors.
  • To listen to the mentors and develop skills.
  • To inform Works Supervisor, Lead Operative and mentors of any urgently required equipment, concerns regarding parts/build/ people/equipment.
  • To effectively maintain the tidiness, safety and cleanliness of the work areas.
  • As required sign for the receipt of delivered goods, deliver goods to the required area, forward any signed paperwork to the Works Supervisor.
  • Ensure full compliance with the company’s Business Management System within your area of responsibility.

  • Minimum GCSE Level 4 (Grade C) in Maths and English Language

We are looking for a Site Services Engineer to join our Site Services Department.

The Site Services Engineer plays a key role in delivering technical solutions for mainly site-based projects in the integration of control systems, site work, extensions, and maintenance engineering. In this role, you will work closely with customers and internal teams to ensure the seamless execution of projects, providing technical expertise to support installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities.

Reporting Daily to the Site Services Manager, the role will include but is not exclusive to:

  • Prepare and submit technical proposals, cost estimates, and tenders for site services, including modifications, maintenance, system investigations, emergency callouts, and site interventions.
  • Project planning, procurement coordination, and compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • If required/requested, conduct site surveys to assess project scope, technical requirements, and provide accurate pricing.
  • Develop work schedules in collaboration with the Production and Planning Team, ensuring efficient deployment of resources and personnel.
  • Compliance with agreed build specification and Company design criteria.
  • Attend site meetings as necessary to coordinate project tasks, troubleshoot technical challenges, and ensure integration with broader project timelines.
  • Liaise with procurement and planning Department to source and schedule materials, ensuring timely availability for site operations
  • Work closely with the Site Services Manager to ensure all project documentation, technical submissions, and compliance requirements meet company and industry standards.
  • Compile and submit technical documentation and financial records for invoicing, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to the Finance Team.
  • Maintain detailed records of project documentation, purchase orders, and service reports, ensuring full traceability and compliance.
  • Engage and coordinate sub-contractors where necessary, ensuring they
  • meet required standards and project specifications.
  • Conduct site surveys as required to assess project scope, technical
  • requirements, and ensure accurate planning and resource allocation.
  • Provide direct technical support and coordination upon receipt of orders, ensuring smooth execution of on-site activities.
  • Create job-specific method statements and risk assessments, ensuring all site operatives have clear guidance on safety procedures and technical execution.
  • Ensure adherence to company Q&E (Quality & Environmental) management systems, as well as industry safety standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with customers to clarify technical specifications, assess feasibility, and develop engineering solutions that align with project needs.
  • Manage maintenance contracts, working closely with clients to plan and execute works efficiently while ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and quality standards.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in LV switchgear, control panels, and project execution.
  • Strong customer liaison and communication skills.
  • Site surveying, tendering, and contract management.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD & Microsoft Office
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Strong organisational skills and a positive pro-active approach

CNC Machinist / Radan Programmer

We are looking for a CNC Machinist/ Radan Programmer to join our Production Department.

To supply Preformed coppers to the Assembly Lines and create Radan Programmes for the effective running of the Copper Fabrication CNC Machines.

Reporting to the Design Lead the role will include, but is not exclusive to:

  • Maintenance of machines in accordance with the maintenance schedule.
  • The efficient operating of the machines.
  • Monitoring of scrap and identifying true causes.
  • Monitor copper bar utilisation and reduction of scrap off-cuts.
  • Maintain housekeeping and 5S initiatives.
  • Promote continuous improvement.
  • Radan previously prepared copper layouts.
  • Creation of copperwork drawings using 2D/3D based on fabrication models supplied by AF Fabrications.
  • To work in a timely manner to achieve production start target dates.
  • Developing a system based on 3D drawing to enable the fast transfer of information into a CNC program.
  • Attend meetings as required / requested.

Purpose of the Job

We are seeking a skilled Fabricator to join our team in Nottinghamshire. Responsible to the Works Supervisor and Lead Operative for the fabrication assembly, including welding, sanding ensuring a quality product to the standard manufacture tolerances.

Responsibilities

  • To give guidance and support, where required to fellow team members and sub-contractors
  • To discuss opportunities to increase productivity with the Team Leader in charge.
  • To inform the Team Leader of any urgently required parts
  • To inform the Team Leader of any concerns regarding part/build/equipment
  • Responsibility for complying with and implementing the business management system within their area of activity.
  • To maintain production commitments it may be required to change an operative’s working hours onto a different shift, i.e. a late or night shift.
  • These will only be required in exceptional circumstances and notice will be given where possible. You will be expected to undertake this temporary shift change, if requested.
  • Housekeeping and the implementation of a 5S program is key to the success of the assembly process. You must ensure that your work area is kept tidy at all times and that any tools used when finished with or at the end of each day are returned to the shadow boards. You must where possible add value to the process by contributing to the continuous improvement ethos. This will be monitored via agreed KPI’s and subject to strict audits which will be undertaken at defined intervals.
  • Working closely with fellow team members, including the Team Leader and Works Supervisor to constantly strive for improvements leading to reduced lead times and quality improvements. To review Health, Safety and Environment impacts within the assembly area and the wider company of which your contribution is an essential part of the process.
  • To carry out any other assembly or production support tasks as required, within the post-holder’s capabilities.

Controls & Monitoring Estimating Engineer

We are looking for a Controls and Monitoring Estimating Engineer to join our Sales Department.

Reporting to the Sales Estimating Director the role will include, but is not exclusive to:

  • Review consultant / client technical specifications and drawings.
  • Identify the best engineering solutions.
  • List all the Hardware and licence requirements with cost.
  • Estimate all Engineering hours both on and off site for the duration of the project.
  • Liaise with our supply chain for lead times and cost.
  • Liaise with third party PLC Contractors for cost and availability.
  • Liaise with our internal EMS engineering team.
  • Write and present PMS/EMS/SCADA Tech Subs when required.
  • Assist with keeping the company estimate platform up to date with the latest PMS/EMS/SCADA Hardware/Engineering prices (training will be provided with the estimating platform and software use).
  • Attend any site or client meetings as and when required during the tender process.
  • Responsibility for complying with and implementing business management system within their area of activity.
