AF Switchgear Virtual Learning

Lockdown Virtual Learning

With COVID-19 impacting all Colleges and their ability to continue the apprentice training programme it was crucial that a way could be found quickly to ensure our apprentices did not miss out on their academic work.

With a ‘can do spirit’ and working with our provider, West Nottinghamshire College we soon found a solution to support our current apprentices.

We have fully IT equipped a meeting room at our HQ for use as a college classroom where
students via Microsoft teams are able to have interactive lessons with the tutor on a ‘one to one’ or group session.

Assignments are set as normal together with the NVQ level 3 reviews. This has benefited all students to ensure that they do not miss out on study time, thereby maintaining levels of attendance and advancement.

AF Group currently supports over 20 apprentices within the electrical, administration and Fabrication sectors of the business.

Open day and job opportunities AF Switchgear

AF Switchgear will be teaming up with West Nottinghamshire College’s apprenticeship service – Vision Apprentices – to offer careers advice on a range of vacancies.

On Wednesday 25 March, from 5pm-8pm we will be opening our doors for a specialist open event at our Nunn Brook Road site to enable prospective job applicants to find out more about the business and a range of job vacancies.

New apprentice recruits are required in electrical panel building, fabrication and welding, IT and business administration.

Tutors from Vision Apprentices will be at the event to discuss the apprenticeships, what the roles involve and there will be a tour of the factory and office facilities for guests to speak to employees, including current apprentices, engineers and administration staff about their jobs.

Anyone wishing to attend should register with college recruitment expert Lee Speed by calling 01623 627191 ext 8159 or email him at lee.speed@wnc.ac.uk

Current electrical engineering apprentice Sam Allen, 18, said: “Things are going very well for me here. I’ve just finished working with my mentor and I’m now working more independently on jobs and really enjoying things.”

Apprentice business partner Ricky Singh said: “This open event will be the perfect opportunity for people to learn more about these roles within a well-established company which specialises in switchgear and control panel applications.

“There could be the opportunity to apply for vacancies at the open evening should individuals have the pre-requisite qualifications.”
