Sales Estimating Engineer

Applications are invited to join the Sales Department, reporting to the Sales Manager. The successful applicant will work as part of the Sales Team preparing estimates and tenders using the bespoke company estimating software and systems.

Intermediate Applications Engineer

Applications are invited to join the Engineering Department, reporting to the Engineering Manager. The successful applicant will join a team where they will be fully trained in the design of LV Switchboards, Package Sub Stations, MCCs, PFC Equipment and Process Control Systems, with a view to furthering their future career into the post of Applications Engineer.

Works Fabricator

Experience in this field is preferred however training can be provided. Responsible to the Fabrication Supervisor and the Lead Fabricator.
The successful applicant will be required to fabricate items using all disciplines within the fabrication process including welding and sanding ensuring a quality product to the company’s standard manufacturing tolerances.

Pre-treatment & Power Coating Operative

Experience in this field is preferred however training can be provided.
The preparation & powder coating of steel parts utilising a semi-automatic system.

Radan Programmer

Responsible to the Engineering Director and Contract / Applications Engineers for the preparation of CNC Punch and Laser programmes, working from detailed part drawings. The successful applicant will also need to work closely with the Contracts Engineer, Applications Engineer and Works Supervisor ensuring effective working of the CNC Punch machines.

Apprenticeships and Training

AF Switchgear is able to offer a modern technical apprenticeship leading to an NVQ level 3 qualification. The course is based over four years on a day-release system ensuring a balanced academic and on-the-job training.

The importance of apprentices, is to ensure the future viability of the company, is wholly recognised. Accounting for around 15% of the works staff, once qualified apprentices develop into other strategic roles within the company. Sales and engineering have benefited from this ongoing development, with these individuals accounting for 25% of staff in these areas.

The apprenticeship scheme has shown that it not only benefits the company, with staff retention levels as high as 95% over the past 15 years, but has also demonstrates that through the right company support and hard work these individuals can realise their full potential and fulfil their personal development.

Apprenticeships start in September of the academic year.
